Costa Brava. Surroundings: Lloret is 70 kilometres north of the regional capitol Barcelona and 150 kilometres south of the French border. Lloret de Mar is perhaps the best known coastal town on the Costa Brava and certainly one of the most popular. The reason Lloret de Mar became such an attractive destination has a lot to do with it's 7 kilometres of pristine coastline & blue flag sandy beaches flanked by countryside of outstanding beauty. The region around Lloret de Mar is characterized by long sandy beaches, steep cliffs and many small silent bays with crystal clear water such as for example Cala Canyelles, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Brava, Santa Cristina and Montgota. Bay of Cala Canyelles with photos & description. The bay of Cala Canyelles is located between the famous resorts of Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, embedded in the surrounding pine-wooded mountains. The guests will find a long, sandy beach with a beach restaurant, guarded parking area, the Club Nautico with many boat landings and a water-skiing and windsurfing school. The urbanization offers the visitors several restaurants, supermarkets, laundry, tennis courts, an international golf course and a community pool for the guests. Bay of Montgota. This small and romantic bay, is located between Lloret de Mar and Cala Canyelles and the sandy beach is rammed by rocks. Bay of Santa Cristina. The bay of Santa Cristina is situated between the resorts of Lloret de Mar and Blanes and you can enjoy a hilarious day at the beach and various activities eg pursue diving. The beach Playa Santa Cristina is largely undeveloped and the beach is fully equipped with lifeguard stations, showers and restaurants. An unpaved road leads steeply down to the beach about 150 m down (older people or people with walking difficulties can have cause problems). Situated above the beach you will find the Chapel of Santa Cristina and you enjoy beautiful views of the beach Playa Santa Cristina. In combination with visit of the beach, we recommend also a visit of botanical garden Pinya de Rosa about 400m away. Climate: The climate in the Lloret de Mar is welcoming for the majority of the year. Its summers are hot without being oppressive and in July & August boast average highs of 29°C. Lloret de Mar's coldest month is January and its winters (though a good deal cooler than in Spain's southern regions) still reach average highs of 13°C . This means there is the potential to have lunch al fresco, or take part in outdoor activities all year round. Things to do in Lloret de Mar: Aside from the hotels, apartment complexes, swathes of restaurants and many bars, Lloret de Mar has a lot to offer. Two good examples of this heritage come in the form of the Roman Sepulchral (a 2nd century Roman burial tower) and the Santa Clotilde Gardens (fantastic modernist & romantic gardens designed in Italian Renaissance style). Lloret de Mar also has some of the best sports facilities around, with almost all types catered for in the town & a good selection of golf courses outside of it. The varied countryside surrounding Lloret de Mar is favoured amongst those who travel to the area to participate in adventure sports, from hiking and mountain biking to rock climbing and skiing. Furthermore Lloret is the undisputed nightlife capital of the Costa Brava. There are British bars, German beer cellars, burger joints galore and all-night clubs where you can bop till you drop. You're probably not heading to Lloret for its cultural scene but if you're in town during one of the local fiestas take the opportunity to join in a traditional Spanish knees-up. These people really know how to party with colourful parades, processions, fireworks and dancing in the streets.
