Surroundings: Llançà, the fishermen's town, you will find on the peninsula Cabo Creus, in the north of the Costa Brava, which has the classical structure of the places along the coast. While the fisherman's quarter is located directly at the shore, you will find the centre of the town in a distance from the beach. This was a practical way to protect the town from pirates in the Middle Ages. In a harmonious manner the fishermen's quarter around the numerous bays with their translucent water, was then transformed into small conurbations. Llançà kept the original economy structure of agriculture and fishing. With the expansion of the port the fishing increased over the last years. This gives the tourist the possibility to visit the daily auction of fish as well as test the variety of seafood. The resort Llançà is located 15 km from the French border, has a railway station and a sport port with 500 landing stages. 20 km away is Figueras, a town with an important business and cultural centre as well as one of the most beautiful Casinos of Europe, hosted in a medieval castle. A golf course with 18 holes is located approximately 14 km away in Peralada. Llanca consists of Llanca village and the Port de Llanca. Llanca, the older village, has a number of historical buildings surrounding the plaza major. The port is newer, having been developed only in the course of this century. Until after the civil war the fishermen of Llanca lived only in the village and used the port only for their work. Port and village together have approximately 4.000 inhabitants. Within the district of Llanca there are numerous green areas as well as beaches of varying size and condition: from family beaches with sand or gravel to the smallest bays which can usually only be reached on foot or by boat. Climate: The climate is mild and moderate. In summer, the Tramuntana, a very strong northerly wind, similar to the Mistral, supplies a cool and refreshing breeze. Things to do in Llanca and Port de la Selva: The town Llançà provides for many excursions into the charm full landscape, that one can combine with a visit to the numerous roman memorials and the museums (among other things the Dali museum in Figueras). The village square with the church and the peninsula Castellar in the harbour are to mention in particular. Here one has a marvellous look up to the French coast in the northeast and to the Cabo Creus in the southeast. The sea water here is, as in the entire zone around the Cap Creus, exceptionally clear and earns top scores for safely when tested. Sport facilities are available for cyclists, tennis and all types of water sports. The monastery Sant Père de Rodes is located between Llançà and Port de la Selva and is considered the most important building in Catalonia from the Roman age. By road it can be reached via Port de la Selva or Vilajuïga. Several foot paths lead to the monastery from Llançà or Vall de Santa Creu. You find there numerous restaurants, specializing in local seafood, in all price categories.
