Blanca.
Benissa, a jewel on the Costa Blanca, situated between the towns
Denia and Calpe, offers a
great variety of attractions mainly in the well preserved and typically Spanish
old part of town. Looking at the century old walls, with the narrow cobblestone
streets, the coat of arms that decorate almost every house and the antic
mansions one feels transported back into a different time.
The urban culture centre, which now contains the library, the old hospital for
the poor, which today houses the city hall, the monastery of St. Francis dating
from the 17th century or the commodity exchange dating from the 15th century are
among the most important attractions which draw a lot of attention every year
from our holiday guest.
Benissa extends over hills, gorges and terraced field all the way down to the
ocean, where the coastal road winds around jagged rocks. The climate is mild and
well balanced. On the beach that stretches over a distance of 4 km, diving,
sailing, kayaking, wind surfing and waterskiing is possible. Besides a large
sports centre there is also a golf club and a riding club. For hikers Benissa
offers well marked hiking paths.
You can reach Benissa by the main road (N-332) and is also easy to find via the
highway A-7, exit Benissa. The Costa Blanca-Express El Treneta offers a train
connection between Denia and Alicante (approx. 90 km) in the south and Valencia
(approx. 100 km) in the north.
